About Our Founder

ASHLEIGH S. CHAPMAN, JD
Human Rights Lawyer and Social Entrepreneur

After more than 20 years in the field, what I know to be true is this: Human trafficking does not have to exist in our world today.  But it will take a world of people to end it.  Every one of us can make significant impact, but it’s when we work together that change can happen.  If you’re ready to change things, join us.

Since 2001, Ashleigh has been building award-winning solutions, partnerships, and programs in education, technology, government, business, nonprofit, healthcare, and community sectors to end exploitation and care for those in need.

Prior to founding Altus, Ashleigh has served as: the President/CEO of AFRJ®, a global humanitarian aid organization that has supported 15,000+ anti-trafficking organizations and projects; the co-founder and Director of the Center for Global Justice at Regent University School of Law in Virginia; the Director of a non-profit serving thousands of at-risk youth; and a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children in foster care.

Highlights from her career thus far include: helping lawmakers in the U.S. and abroad craft comprehensive anti-trafficking laws and policies; establishing the Freedom Council to mobilize business engagement to solve for justice issues; training thousands of advocates how to collaborate across sectors to increase impact; building innovative and award-winning solutions to strengthen local community response (including Justice U™ and Engage Together®); and being named one of USA Today’s Women of the Year in 2022.

Ashleigh is a licensed attorney in the state of Virginia. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Juris Doctorate from Regent University School of Law, receiving the faculty’s Most Outstanding Graduate award, and Summa Cum Laude with her B.S. from TTU.
